Ensign Shipping and Logistics’ Inaugural Potjie Competition was hosted at the Durban Ski Boat Club on Saturday the 18th of April. It was a fantastic event that allowed staff to interact and compete with one another whilst creating some amazing potjies.

The event saw Ensign staff randomly split into three teams named: One Love, The A-Team and Rakesh en die Potjie Boetjies. Each team created a different potjie, one chicken, one venison and one oxtail and each team arrived well prepared and with tons of spirit.   The competition was heated and the day flowed beautifully with the venue and weather both playing their part. We certainly could not have asked for a better view!

Although all 3 teams had made commendable effort with printed t-shirts, painted banners and fun accessories, the prize for best spirit went to One Love, ably led by Nayiem. Their support of the other teams together with their Rastafarian-inspired get up, and reggae music set the good vibe for the day.

The taste competition was judged by Ensign directors Eddy Neilson, Shelley Dovey and Lukas Swarts, who thoroughly enjoyed the Masterchef-style presentation of plates. All 3 potjies were tasted (and enjoyed) and each reflected great effort on the part of their respective chefs. Initially the scores were tied  between The A-Team and Rakesh en die Potjie Botjies but ultimately Toni and her A-Team came flying through for the win with their delicious oxtail.

The day saw fantastic team spirit and comradery amongst the teams and it is this spirit that makes Ensign Shipping & Logistics the success that it is today. Well done again to everyone involved in making the day one to remember. It is an exciting time to be involved with Ensign as this team has big goals and visions for the future.
